Karaoke is resurging as the entertainment of choice.  When we started SingItIndiana.com, we started populating our calendar with great karaoke shows because our writers, editors and promoters all had connections with this form of expression.  As we have expanded into open stage and mic, live acts and DJ/Nightclub promotion, the genre of entertainment that still dominates the public gathering landscape is...karaoke.  This writer asks, "Why?"

That's a very good question.  Why is karaoke a hit across central Indiana?  Well, here's my take.  It's efficient from a bar owner/manager's point of view.  It caters directly to the audience/singer/patron.  It's inexpensive compared to bands, and has greater perceived value than a club DJ.  The bottom line is that karaoke is interactive and flourishing especially in this economy.  The karaoke business in itself is on the downswing, but compared to these other forms of local entertainment, it is thriving...one song at a time. 

So here's some advice to singers, musicians and other interested parties:  if your band isn't getting enough bookings during the week, try karaoke.  If you're a DJ company an have not ventured into karaoke yet, now is the time.  And if you are a bar owner paying too much for a band during a weeknight and you can barely clear $500 worth of bar business, karaoke is the answer.  It may not be entertainment in it's purest creative form, but it's about service.  And serving the public, in entertainment, makes the world go round.
